CUTTING CORNERS ON PUBLIC ACCESS • The popularity of DIY, public-land hunting has exploded in recent years.

Petersen’s Bowhunting

REGENERATIVE WILDLIFE AGRICULTURE: THE FUTURE IS HERE! • WHITETAILS PREFER and require plant diversity for a nutrient-dense and nutritionally balanced diet. Such a diet not only allows them to thrive on the landscape but also provides many medicinal benefits for acute diseases, infections and pest infestations.

YOU CAN BUY BETTER SHOOTING • IT WOULD BE NICE if we shot our bows all year long, but the reality is many of us (particularly we whitetail deer hunters) use August as the official start of bow-season prep. I start by getting my bow out and looking at what I need to add or upgrade.

PART 4 RANGEFINDERS • AS I MENTIONED in the past few columns, it is important to use a rangefinder with a built-in tilt compensation program so you can make an accurate shot whether shooting uphill or downhill. Also, the higher the magnification of the rangefinder and the smaller the reticle, the more precise the instrument will usually be.

HUNTING THE WIDE-OPEN WEST • THE MORNING STARTED at a relaxed pace as we drove to our prime area as the sun started to rise. Normally, the hunt would begin well before legal shooting light, but covering large expanses of land trying to find nomadic critters meant that seeing them first was the best strategy.

BLINDED BY THE LIGHT • WHEN FIBER OPTICS found their way into archery, it was a game changer.

MATHEWS PHASE 4 29 • MATHEWS IS AN industry leader in bow manufacturing, and the company is laser focused on its goal to produce stability without compromise in its rigs.
