Narrator Ann Marie Lee portrays Lena London, apprentice writer to the famous novelist Camilla Graham. The story takes listeners through Lena's personal nightmare as she and Camilla investigate a murder and get attacked themselves, landing Lena in the hospital. Lee aptly illuminates the drama experienced by Lena as her pain medicine gives her hallucinations and paranoia. Lee's narration tends to be overly emotive at first, but it becomes more natural as the audiobook progresses. Lee also does an effective job of performing the balancing act between the softer elements of this cozy mystery and the alarming details of Lena's experience.
