The town of Hannah, Ala., is the “supernatural Vegas truck stop of the universe,” haunted by fairies and demons. One of the latter decides to set up timid Southern girl Evie Douglass to take the fall for the murder of her former high school nemesis. Fortunately, Ansgar the demon hunter, her best friend’s brother-in-law, is on her side. Evie easily accepts demons and teleportation, but has a harder time believing that Ansgar is interested in her, which leads to the typical relationship fears and hangups. George’s follow-up to Demon Hunting in Dixie delivers plenty of laugh-out-loud lines (“She’s so ugly, she’d make a train take a dirt road, bless her heart”), Southern-fried hijinks, and larger-than-life characters, and while a few winding back-country subplots lead too far away from the main story, readers will enjoy the interplay between shy violet Evie and super-alpha Ansgar.
